Local Motion have been working with artists Laurel Molly and Phil Cheater on designing a eye catching and beautiful mural and ‘Happening board’ in Carmarthen town centre. Laurel is running workshops in local schools to think about the question at the heart of Local Motion’s work: “What if the oldest town in Wales could model a radical future (for everyone)?” Laurel will incorporate the artwork created by the children into the final mural design. Phil will design the Happening board and lead on painting the mural.

This idea started in a sub-group of the Local Assembly, made up of people who live in Carmarthen. They noticed that although Carmarthen is a vibrant place where many fantastic events are happening all-year-round, and despite digital technology and social media, people often don’t know what is happening in the town. This was backed up by one of our first projects Llais Caerfyrddin, where many residents said the same thing – they don’t know what’s going on!

The Happening wall will re-imagine the concept of the noticeboard, it will be a real place where everyone can pass-on and receive information. It will be centrally located, accessible, user-friendly, imaginative and surrounded by a stunning mural. A one-stop space where everyone can show, and be shown, what is going on.
