LocalMotion Lincoln
LocalMotion Lincoln is focused on building new and nurturing existing relationships to enable communities to create the change that they want to see in the city.
“We don’t need to agree, to work together. We just need to agree to work together.”
The ROOTS are our coordination group made up of local voices, organisations and individuals. They help us protect investment for community use and help us hear what is happening in communities.
The BRANCHES are the groups, ideas and activities being led by communities in response to what we hear to test a different way.
The FRUITS and LEAVES are everyone living, working and studying in Lincoln, everyone unique with individual experiences and perspectives.
The BEES are the way we cross pollinate, sharing information and learning.

What does this mean?
In 2023 Lincoln launched a poverty truth commission which has identified four themes for change.
These themes and insights are demonstrated in the Poverty Truth Commission Real Change document, which you can access in the Useful Links section below.

We are focusing on “messy art” and grass root activities.
A new direction bringing in culture to this work, in response to rising community tension (2024-2025), which will fully launch in 2026!
Creating self-sufficient, sustainable neighbourhoods.
Championing the contribution to the green agenda at a local level with community spirit, building resilient social infrastructure with a connected network of provision that can adapt to meet the needs of individuals and businesses both now, and in the future.
In early 2023 Climate Hope Lincoln was born. Since then, there have been a host of locally-led engagement experiments across the city.
The focus of the work at the moment (2025) includes a #ChooseLocal campaign and further exploration of applying Doughnut Economics thinking.
Engagement with purpose, designed, driven and delivered by young people, for young people to be heard.
Not as a one-off but for the long-term through capacity and confidence building.
Experimenting with devolved powers around decisions and resources, spaces and places.
We do not want to create another isolated group of young people, only talking to other young people.
We have heard that Lincoln’s 15–25-year-olds want opportunities to build intergenerational relationships and join spaces where they can influence policy and place vision.
Developing a fresh approach to impact and evaluation, with people at its core, building skills and capacity locally.
In this area of work, we are asking “how will we know we are making a difference?”
We are wanting to tell a story of Lincoln, delving deep into who we are, what we want and what we need.
For this we started a community researcher (listener) programme and invite people in Lincoln to take part in a BIG Conversation each year.
The BIG Conversation has some fixed mapping questions around happiness, hope and voice, with a deeper delve into an emerging theme.

In 2025 we supported a group of community creators to design and produce a Lincoln Horizons comic newspaper that was delivered to 41,000 households.
This helped us weave together all of our different stories and approaches together for the first time.
In October 2025, LocalMotion Lincoln began a local plan review. The above is where we started from in 2020 till now. This process is expected to end in April 2026.
