LocalMotion Learning Framework: Discovering, acting on, and shaping our work. Check it out

How We Started

LocalMotion began with the collective realisation from our funders that collaborating with each other, and with local communities, would better tackle the root causes of the complex, deep-rooted challenges facing local communities. They wanted to shift power, resources, and decision-making closer to local people to co-create space for transformative change. This is more than a pooled fund – it is direct collaboration between funders and people in places.

Five established UK funders

Initiated by six established UK funders, LocalMotion was co-created with six places around a shared inquiry question: What might be possible if we worked together in a different way?

Investing for the longer term – to 2031 – we now work with five committed funders who share our view that no-one organisation or person has the whole answer. Our work together is grounded in practical transformation. Together we create the space for us to collectively build, test and learn.

The national fund is hosted by Esmee Fairbairn Foundation (charity no. 200051) with local resources delegated to local coordination groups in the six places.
